Pf racing

Frog Racing, a minigame added to Pocket Frogs in version 1.0.6, allows players to race one of their frogs against four computer-controlled frogs for a chance to win prizes.

A frog's speed and stamina stat determines how fast and long it can hop for, and is important for racing. Happiness is also an important factor, as it also contributes to how fast the frog moves. Occasionally, dragonflies can change the outcome of a race, which causes a temporary boost to its speed when eaten.

According to the developers, the only skill involved in racing is to breed the fastest frog. The only luck involved in races are random boosts caused by eating a dragonfly.

Note that having a frog with the highest speed and stamina stats possible does not guarantee that you will win; though it will have a greater success rate than frogs with lower stats.

If you are unsure about which frog to race, you can refer to the Best Frogs for Racing page to view the frogs with the highest possible stats.

Frog racing was temporarily unavailable between app versions 3.0 and 3.1.5, for an unknown reason.

Overview[]

Any tamed mature frog can be entered into a race by selecting "Games" from the frog's page and then selecting "Race." In order to enter a race, the player must pay a fee, in which the cost is dependent on the frog's level.

Frogs can only be raced if they are mature, tamed, and at/below the player's level. Gifted frogs which are of a greater rarity than the player's level cannot participate in a race until the player reaches the corresponding level.

The opponents of the race always equal the level of the player's frog, though the appearance of the other frogs are selected at random.

If the player's frog finishes first, they can choose to either recieve a prize of coins equal to double the entry fee, or to keep one of the opposing frogs. In the case that the player's mailbox is full, they will automatically receive the coin prize instead.

Second place gives a reward of coins which is slightly greater than the entry fee, while third place gives a reward of coins which is slightly less than the entry fee.

Fourth and fifth place do not get any rewards and are met with a screen which reads "Better luck next time!"

You can quit a race by pressing the x in the bottom right corner, though no prizes will be awarded.

Speed and Stamina[]

Each frog has an individual set of speed and stamina statistics that varies depending on the individual. As a result, some frogs have a better overall speed and stamina stat than others.

The rarity of the frog determines the possible range of these stats. The rarer a frog, the more speed and stamina it can have. Most of the time, the maximum possible value is around 7x the level of that frog, though higher level frogs could be a point or two below.

The Pocket Frogs Database has the speed and stamina stat for most frogs for versions 3.1.0 and newer (see the "Sheet" tabs across the bottom for each pattern).

Frogs will always race against four other computer-run frogs at the same rarity level, so only the speed and stamina relative to that rarity determine the frog's racing prowess. Racing can be used to obtain frog patterns at the same rarity level as the player. Promotional frogs never appear as opponents in races.

Stamina determines how quickly the frog loses happiness, while speed determines how quickly the frog will hop along the race. During the course of a race the happiness of the frog decreases as it hops. A potion can be used to increase the happiness of the frog while racing. Any flies the frog eats while racing also increases the happiness. The happier the frog, the faster the frog will hop. If the frog's happiness reaches 0% it will still hop, but at a very slow pace.

One strategy is to choose a frog with higher stamina than speed; a bigger difference lets the frog hop more continuously.
